The Mate House
By Daniel Evan White
Project Overview
After shooting homes in and around Vancouver for nearly a decade, it’s no surprise that we’d come across some works of art, but The Mate House by Daniel Evan White stands out as a true masterpiece of West Coast Modernism and was one of our favourites.
Its bold geometric design, seamless integration with the landscape, and breathtaking oceanfront presence make it one of Vancouver’s most extraordinary architectural gems. It was an honour to spend time here chasing the light. Thank you to the Smeatoncook real estate team for inviting us onboard.

Approach
Through our photography and videography, we sought to capture the essence of the Mate House—its striking geometry, seamless relationship with the landscape, and the way natural light animates its sculptural forms. By using dynamic camera movements, carefully framed compositions, and immersive aerial perspectives, we highlighted Daniel Evan White’s mastery of spatial design and his ability to transform challenging sites into architectural poetry. Every shot was crafted to honor the home’s bold lines, layered perspectives, and breathtaking oceanfront presence, allowing viewers to experience the structure as White intended—not just as a building, but as a living, breathing interaction between form, function, and environment.

“David O’Brien is the most incredible cinematographer, editor, cameraman, drone operator, business owner I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the luxury real estate market. He has come through for our team time and time again and has gone above and beyond for every project we’ve hired him for.
He is always prompt, accurate and an excellent communicator. Evolve will always be our top choice when it comes to working on high end film projects. Thank you David and your team for all that you’ve done for us. We look forward to continuing our working relationship.
